At Fisher Simons we offer exclusive custom web hosting solutions to our clients and our clients alone.
Unhappy with the quality and inflexibility of typical shared hosting solutions, and aware of the prohibitive cost of dedicated and ‘cloud’ hosting solutions, we have decided to offer high quality managed hosting at an affordable price to our own clients.
Because we only allow sites that we have developed onto a server, and carefully monitor resource usage, we can ensure extremely high quality hosting with maximum reliability and minimum service interruptions. Once a server reaches capacity we commission another machine to ensure quality and performance is not compromised.
Our motivation is satisfied clients and higher quality websites, unlike shared hosting solutions that try to cram hundreds of sites onto a single machine to maximise profit.
The Techy Stuff
We do this by maintaining our own high-specification servers with a carefully controlled number of our own clients’ sites securely sharing each machine. This arrangement allows us to utilise full IIS, ASP.NET & MS SQL Server features (many of which are restricted in medium-trust shared hosting environments) without the expense of a standalone dedicated server for each client.
Our servers use new Dell hardware, are located in a high-availability UK data centre with a 100% network uptime guarantees and 5 terabytes of bandwidth, featuring quad-core Intel Xeon processors, SAS raid storage, Cisco Pix firewalls and offline nightly backup for maximum performance, security and peace of mind.
The Bottom Line
As mentioned previously, this service is only available to our own clients, for websites we have developed. Pricing is straightforward and dependent on likely loads with 3 guide levels*:
- Static site: £10 per month or £100 per year
- Small dynamic site (eg small shop, CMS): £30 per month or £300 per year
- Large dynamic site (eg busy shop, complex web app): £60 per month or £600 per year
We are of course happy to work with a client’s existing or preferred alternative hosting partner providing technical and platform requirements are met.
* we reserve the right to vary pricing to ensure resources are fairly distributed and may require higher fees for extremely busy websites. In all such cases we will advise clients before any increase. Clients always have the option to organise their own hosting should they not be satisfied with our service or pricing – we do not require hosting on our servers as a prerequisite for our web design projects.
